What is an Australian Labradoodle?
Australian Labradoodles refers to dogs that were first created in Australia in the 1980’s and were purposefully bred to be service and therapy dogs for people with dog allergies. The original breeds introduced were the Labrador Retriever, Standard Poodle, Irish Water Dog, and the English Cocker Spaniel. Australian Labradoodles have been bred over generations with focus on health, temperament, coat quality, and confirmation through diligent health testing and planned mating. No other “doodle” breed has been developed over generations like the Australian Labradoodle. Breeding multigenerational Australian Labradoodles together for more that 30 years has brought a consistent appearance and temperament throughout the breed. Australian Labradoodles love their people, are very intelligent, and desire to please. This makes a wonderful companion in the home and makes training easier than many other breeds.
The Australian Labradoodle is different from all other labradoodles. A Labradoodle is a general term for a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Standard Poodle. Often these dogs are not allergy friendly, may shed significantly, and the temperaments can be unpredictable. They, more than likely, do not have standard health testing requirements. Australian Labradoodles have also been infused with other breeds other than the Poodle and the Lab as mentioned above. Our dogs are decedents of the original Australian lines. We only breed Australian Labradoodles, and we are proud members of the Australian Labradoodle Association of America. We chose to be members of the ALAA for many reasons. One of the reasons is that: “The ALAA database is the original and largest database for the Australian Labradoodle and is exclusively proprietary. The ALAA works diligently to ensure the authenticity of dogs and puppies registered with its database.”
